”Călușul”- A traditional Romanian dance

For the realization of the second practical case of the European Project AGEment we spoke with the most vehement dancer of Căluș. A practitioner of this ritual who danced alongside the late bailiff who was declared a LIVING TREASURE.

Călușul is a Romanian tradition that has been declared by UNESCO a masterpiece of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

This is an ancient ritual that through movement and dance banishes evil spirits and has a healing purpose. It is said that by practicing it, it brings wealth, good luck and abundance in people’s homes, the dance being a protector and a bearer of the good.

In the conducting of this mini-interview, it is desired to valorize the potential of older adults through active aging, transmitting and promoting these rituals to young people in order to keep the Romanian tradition alive.
